Spring Cocktail Debut @ Drago Centro

I’m admittedly tardy to the downtown LA happy hour party.

With the debut of the Spring cocktail menu at Drago Centro Wednesday night, however, there was no time like the present to check out the downtown happy hour scene with a group including Drago pro The Minty.

As good conversation flowed, so did the yummy Spring cocktails. For this night only, these $12.00 drinks cost only $6.00–although “it’s always Happy Hour at Drago Centro.”

We ordered:

Tarocco @ Drago Centro
Tarocco: Belvedere vodka, Cointreau, Tangelo,
cucumber and lemon juice

Il Padrino @ Drago Centro
Il Padrino: Tequila Ocho Plata, Mirto Amaro,
Martini Bianco Vermouth, Orange bitters
Testarossa @ Drago Centro
Testa rossa: Siete Leguas Blanco Tequila, Serrano
Tincture, Raspberries, Lemon juice, & Red Hawaiian
salt

Draculino @ Drago Centro
Draculino: Distillery no. 209 Gin, Dimmi Liquori,
Harry’s strawberries, Basil, Lemon juice

La bruschetta mediterranea @ Drago Centro
La bruschetta mediterranea ($3): Eggplant, smoked scamorza
cheese, crostini

La pizza al giorno @ Drago Centro
La pizza del giorno ($4): Spinach, Ricotta and Pancetta pizza
Il gnocco fritto farcito @ Drago Centro
Il Gnocco Fritto Fartito ($5): Mortadella, Parmesan, Arugula

Although I had low expectations for my pizza and gnocco fritto fartito by virtue of them being “bar food”, both surpassed my expectations in taste and ability to fill me up. My Draculino and J’s Testa rossa were also fabulous and well-worth the regular $12 price.

Be sure to check out Drago’s Spring cocktail menu while you can!

Aloha Hour @ Roy’s

After a long day, there are no two words sweeter than “happy hour”–except maybe “sweat pants” (or is that one word? sweatpants?). This week, after hearing about Roy’s $5 Aloha Hour (4:30-6:30 PM), I decided to pay them a visit to sample their noms and libations.
Whereas some restaurants skimp on their happy hours, excluding exactly the dish you want or leaving top shelf liquors out of the fun, Roy’s has an extensive Aloha Hour menu, which includes all of their “Fresh Hawaiian Specialty Cocktails” and all for $5.
Pomegranate Mojito @ Roy's
I ordered the Pomegranate Patron Silver Mojito. It’s Patron. It’s pomegranate. It’s $5. What more could you want? Except maybe a bigger glass.
J ordered the Guava Mojito with Bacardi Silver. His drink was less fruity than mine, and J was a little disappointed that the guava flavor didn’t come through more. This tasted more like a regular mojito.

We also ordered the Wagyu sliders, which are served on King’s Hawaiian sweet bread rolls. The meat was delicious, juicy and tender and completely surpassed my expectations for $5 sliders.
The sliders come with garlic sweet potato fries served in a cute little Chinese take-out box. The garlic topping was fresh and tasty, but I personally think that the combination was a little overwhelming. I much prefer garlic on plain fries, but this definitely didn’t stop me from eating them.

For under $20, J and I had happy tummies and a nice buzz. In short, there’s little not to love about Roy’s Aloha Hour!
